LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has canceled the victory notification of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate Azhar Qayyum from Gujranwala’s NA-81 constituency.

LHC judge Justice Shahid Karim heard the plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed Bilal Ejaz Chaudhry challenging the victory of Azhar Qayyum from NA-81 after the recounting of votes.

During the hearing on the plea of Bilal Ejaz Chaudhry, LHC said that Bilal Ejaz won by 8 thousand votes. The election commission later gave the victory to the opposition candidate Azhar Qayyum after the recount of votes. The petitioner pleaded that the Returning Officer (RO) reduced 2500 votes on the request of vote recounting.

Therefore, the court should suspend the notification of the victory of PML-N’s Azhar Qayyum.

Later, the court accepted the request of PTI’s Bilal Ijaz and declared the victory notification of PML-N candidate Azhar Qayyum as null and void.
