Super Stores in Islamabad raided for violating import policy

ISLAMABAD (Ehsan Bukhari/Special Reporter): In the federal capital, customs has started a crackdown against five major super stores selling non-duty paid goods for violating import policy in various sectors.

They have seized foreign drinks, chocolates, perfumes and other goods worth millions of rupees and initiated legal action.

Meanwhile, customs has taken notice of cosmetics and other goods at the above-mentioned stores and requested import documents.

On the instructions of Collector Customs Islamabad Rizwan Salabat, Deputy Collector Mudassar Aziz and Faryadullah Khan formed various customs teams from across the district, including Enforcement Inspector Najam Abbas, Faisal, Waqar, Faizan, Inspector Sara Nadia, Inspector Kashif, Salman, Fasihullah, Khalid Samad, Ali Aftab Abbasi and 14 teams raided Shaheen Chemist, D Watson Chemist, GN Store, Al-Fattah Store, Shams Store, Isa Ji Store located in Sector F-6 and F-11 of Islamabad and checked foreign chocolate, perfus, pasta and other goods worth crores of rupees, which led to a fight between the owners of the said stores, including Zafar Bakhtawari of D Watson and others. They protested against the customs that these goods were harmful to health or expired, but the customs authorities seized all the goods of the store, which are said to be worth crores of rupees.

The owners of the said stores could not provide any evidence. The customs teams seized the goods and started legal action. It should be noted that Customs has conducted raids for violating the import policy SRO 237.

Under the import policy, the above-mentioned food items must be written “Halal” in Urdu for sale in the country, but they were not written “Halal” in Urdu, which has led to action.
