KARACHI: A man has filed a case against Karachi Electric (KE), claiming Rs 20.2 million in damages for the death of his father due to unannounced load shedding, here on Monday.
A citizen named Adnan filed the petition through his lawyer Usman Farooq in the court of the Senior Civil Judge.
The petitioner said that his father suffered a heart attack on June 29 due to prolonged load shedding in extreme heat. He was taken to the hospital but could not survive.
After his father’s death, he has filed a lawsuit against the electricity company, alleging that his father lost his life due to KE Electric’s negligence.
He highlighted that the Sindh High Court (SHC) had also sought a load shedding plan from K Electric.
The petitioner’s counsel submitted that K Electric has completely failed to serve its customers.
K-Electric is a public listed company incorporated in Pakistan in 1913 as KESC. Privatized in 2005, KE is the only vertically integrated utility in Pakistan that supplies electricity to an area of 6500 square kilometers including Karachi and its adjoining areas.
