Three Pakistani cities among cheapest in world: Details inside

KARACHI: Although the prices of utility bills, fruits, vegetables and other daily necessities in Pakistan may seem like we live in a very expensive country, three of the cheapest cities in the world are actually located in Pakistan.

At least, that’s what Numbeo’s annual cost of living index claims.

The index examined data from January to June 2024, using New York City as a baseline.

The ranking of 218 cities around the world takes into account aspects such as cost of living, rent, cost of living including rent, groceries, restaurant prices, and local purchasing power.

As per the list, the cheapest city in the world is Karachi, which is 81% cheaper than New York. Lahore is the second cheapest city.

Above Lahore is the Indian city of Kolkata, while Islamabad is the fourth cheapest city in the world, 78.5% cheaper than New York.

On the other hand, the city of Geneva in Switzerland is the most expensive city in the world, which is 1.7% more expensive than New York.

Zurich is the second most expensive city after Geneva, while New York is third.

San Francisco is the fourth and Boston the fifth most expensive city in the United States.

Reykjavik, Iceland ranks sixth, followed by Washington, D.C., as the seventh most expensive city.

Three US cities – Seattle, Los Angeles, and Chicago – rank eighth, ninth, and tenth most expensive, respectively.
