ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has been functioning without its Director General (DG) for the past 15 days, officials confirmed on Monday.
Pakistan is facing severe weather events, including heavy rains, lightning strikes, and floods.
There is currently no Director General in the PMD since the retirement of Meher Sahibzad Khan, whose last day in office was March 31, 2024.
Neither the Aviation Ministry has appointed a permanent DG Met nor has anyone in the Meteorological Department been given the charge of maintenance,” a PMD official told the media.
Pakistan has been experiencing severe weather events under the influence of climate change for the past few years, and several people have been killed due to heavy rains and lightning strikes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan during the past few days.
