ISLAMABAD: Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has termed the Indian media reports as ‘lies and propaganda’ and clarified that he has never apologized to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and will never do so.
Mohsin Naqvi has said in a tweet on social media platform ‘X’ that the Indian media operates on lies, not facts. I have done nothing wrong and have never apologized.
He further wrote that all these are fabricated stories aimed at misleading their people. Unfortunately, India is dragging the game into politics, which is damaging the spirit of cricket.
He further said that as ACC Chairman, he was ready to award the trophy that day and is still ready today.
He wrote that if India really wants the trophy, they can come to the ACC office and collect it from me.
This clarification came after Indian media claimed that Mohsin Naqvi had apologized to the BCCI over the Asia Cup trophy controversy, but was not ready to give the trophy and medals as per his condition.
Mohsin Naqvi, taking a blunt stance on the Indian board’s demand, has said that if the Indian team wants the trophy, then its captain should come to the ACC office and collect it from me himself.
This matter came up during the ACC meeting held in Dubai, which was chaired by Mohsin Naqvi. In the meeting, Indian Cricket Board Vice President Rajiv Shukla formally demanded the Asia Cup trophy.
Media reports say that when Rajiv Shukla insisted on handing over the trophy, ACC President Mohsin Naqvi made it clear that this matter was not part of the meeting’s agenda and if the Indian team really wants the trophy, then their captain should come and collect it from the office himself.
No formal decision could be taken during the meeting regarding giving the Asia Cup trophy to the Indian team.
It may be recalled that the Indian team refused to receive the trophy from A Mohsin Naqvi after winning the final of the Asia Cup 2023 and as a result, the ceremony was ended without giving the trophy.
The ACC administration took the trophy back and while the Indian team was left standing on the stage waiting.
