PESHAWAR: Prominent Religious scholar in KP, has succumbed to injuries sustained in a blast outside a mosque in Peshawar’s Armar area.
According to police officials, the blast took place just before Iftar when an improvised bomb exploded outside the mosque, injuring four people, including Mufti Munir Shakir. The blast also partially damaged the outer wall of the mosque.
The injured were immediately shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, where Mufti Munir Shakir was admitted in a critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he could not recover from his injuries. His body is being shifted to his residence for the last rites.
Hospital authorities confirmed that three other injured persons are currently undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) has started collecting forensic evidence from the scene.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has strongly condemned the incident and sought a report from the law enforcement agencies. He also directed the authorities to ensure the early arrest of those responsible and expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Chief Minister’s Advisor on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, while expressing grief over the demise of Mufti Munir Shakir, said that attacks on scholars are extremely worrying and highly condemnable. He stressed that those who target innocent lives are enemies of humanity.
Similarly, Provincial Health Advisor Ehtesham Ali also expressed his condolences on the tragic incident.
Authorities are continuing their investigations as security is on high alert in the region.
