MURREE: The Murree Expressway has been temporarily shut down for all non-essential traffic because of their heavy snowfall, the authorities revealed on Thursday.

The closure will affect a stretch from Phulgara Toll Plaza to Murree. Locals, however, will still be able to go to the hill station through the N-75 highway.

“The National Highway and Motorway Police has tweeted that all concerned agencies have been alerted and that visitors are requested not to visit or venture into Murree unless necessary,” a report says.

Teams of the NHMP and the National Highway Authority (NHA) are operating with heavy machinery around the clock to remove the snow to allow free flow of traffic on the expressway.

Safety has been emphasized by the relevant authorities, and motorists have been warned to exercise caution when traversing the region.

Passengers are also advised to install tire chains on their vehicles, fill fuel tanks with fuel, and follow the instructions of traffic officials.

Weather forecasts reveal that rains and snowfall are expected to continue in Murree, along with the Galiyat region, till early January, thereby requiring the concerned authority to remain on higher alert with ongoing snow clearance operations.
