ISLAMABAD: National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), along with provincial governments, has installed advanced birth and death reporting devices in health centers and hospitals throughout the country to streamline the registration procedure, rendering it efficient, quicker, and more transparent.

At the behest of the Federal Minister for Interior, NADRA is endeavoring to enhance Pakistan’s registration system and bridge the existing gaps.

This program forms part of the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, which was adopted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan on the 1st of January 2025. The project is piloted for the time being and will be scaled up nationally after the provinces are ready to be implemented in full force.

NADRA has installed this system in over 50 hospitals and health centers nationwide under the pilot project.

These encompass key hospitals in Islamabad like PIMS, CDA, and Federal Government hospitals; Lady Aitchison Hospital in Lahore; Bolan Medical College, DHQ, Sheikh Zayed, and Arya Hospital in Quetta; DHQ Hospitals in Haripur and Batkhela in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; DHQ Hospital Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir; Shaheed Syed Rehman Hospital in Gilgit; and several hospitals and Basic Health Units (BHUs) in Hyderabad and Matiari, Sindh.

This automated system sends birth and death notifications directly from the health centers and hospitals to NADRA. Parents or legal heirs of the deceased person will be informed through the mobile app and SMS, directing them to register at their respective Union Councils. NADRA has already received more than 4,000 birth notifications and 407 death notifications through this automated system.

Births and deaths will be registered by citizens either through the NADRA Mobile App or at their local Union Council. The pilot is successfully being implemented in three districts of Punjab and will become operational across the province shortly.

NADRA is also targeting providing this sophisticated system to public and private hospitals and health centers in other provinces and districts. When fully operational, citizens all over the country will enjoy this automated notification system.
