PESHAWAR: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is facing a critical shortage of technical experts, with sources reporting that over 140,000 cybercrime complaints are currently pending due to insufficient staff.

According to insiders, the agency has requested the Ministry of Interior to create more than 800 new positions across grades 1 to 18 to manage the rising workload. The Ministry of Interior is expected to seek approval from the Ministry of Finance for the new posts.

Currently, NCCIA operates with staffing gaps from Phase One and Two, which created 162 positions, while employees recruited under Phase Two will see their contracts expire in June 2026. Phase Three employees’ contracts had already ended in February 2026.

The Ministry of Interior reportedly decided not to extend contracts for certain employees due to alleged corruption complaints, prompting some affected staff to file petitions in the Supreme Court.

Sources warn that without immediate recruitment and contract extensions, the agency’s capacity to handle cybercrime complaints will remain severely constrained.
