OGDCL announces crude oil discovery at Sono-9 Well in Hyderabad

During testing, the well exhibited promising results by producing 1850 Barrels Per Day (BPD) of oil.

ISLAMABAD: The Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful testing and completion of the Sono-9 well in the Sono Development & Production Lease (D&P.L) located in district Hyderabad, Sindh. The well, drilled to a depth of 2350 meters, targeted the hydrocarbon potential in the Upper Sand (1B) of the Lower Goru formation.

OGDCL, holding a 100% stake as the operator in Sono D&P.L, employed in-house expertise to bring the Sono-9 well into the production stream. Notably, Sono-9 is the first well to be directly completed with Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) after thorough well logging and pressure testing.

During testing, the well exhibited promising results by producing 1850 Barrels Per Day (BPD) of oil. OGDCL has embraced cutting-edge artificial lifting technology, with seven wells already equipped with ESP, leading to a substantial improvement in production levels.

This achievement marks a significant step in OGDCL’s production enhancement roadmap, contributing to the country’s energy sector and reinforcing its position as a leading player in the oil and gas industry.
