MUZAFFARABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly, Shah Ghulam Qadir, has claimed that the people of AJK have rejected the protest call given by the Public Action Committee, describing the group’s campaign as unsuccessful.

Speaking on the prevailing situation in the region, Shah Ghulam Qadir said the committee had previously made several attempts to disturb peace and stability in Azad Kashmir. He alleged that the group’s agenda was aimed at creating unrest and disrupting law and order.

According to the opposition leader, the public has refused to support the committee’s call for protests, resulting in what he termed the failure of its anti-peace agenda. He noted that markets, commercial centers, and businesses across Azad Kashmir remained open and were operating normally despite the protest appeal.

“People across Azad Kashmir are peacefully engaged in their daily work and business activities,” he said, adding that the normal functioning of markets throughout the region reflects public confidence in peace and stability.

Shah Ghulam Qadir also praised the role of the police and law enforcement agencies, saying they had successfully maintained law and order and ensured public safety in the face of attempts by disruptive elements to create unrest.

The opposition leader further stated that all political parties in Azad Kashmir are currently focused on preparations for the upcoming elections. He emphasized that the people, political forces, and state institutions fully support the government’s stance on maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Expressing confidence in the electoral process, Shah Ghulam Qadir said that the forthcoming elections in Azad Kashmir would be conducted in a peaceful, democratic, and transparent manner.
