ISTANBUL: The talks between Pakistan and the Afghan interim government held in Istanbul have reportedly ended without any breakthrough, according to Information Minister Atta Tarar.
Pakistan expressed gratitude to Turkey and Qatar for facilitating and mediating the discussions, acknowledging their diplomatic role during the dialogue.
The Information Minister stated that Pakistan remains firm on its principled stance that responsibility for preventing cross-border terrorism originating from Afghan soil lies with the Afghan authorities. He noted that Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns regarding militant groups using Afghan territory for attacks.
Atta Tarar further said that the Afghan Taliban has not yet fulfilled the international, regional, and bilateral obligations it agreed to under the 2021 Doha Peace Agreement, including commitments related to counter-terrorism.
He reiterated that Pakistan maintains goodwill towards the Afghan people and seeks peace, stability, and regional cooperation, but emphasized that “Pakistan will not support any measures taken by the Afghan interim government that are not in the interest of the Afghan people or neighboring countries.”
Diplomatic sources indicate that dialogue channels will remain open, but the current round ended without substantive progress.
