ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Yousaf made the declaration that the 2026 Hajj price could be lowered following a Saudi firm’s bid to provide services to Pakistani pilgrims at a lower rate.
The measure is intended to make the government’s Hajj package cheaper and transparent.
Under the existing plan, Hajj expenses vary between Rs. 1.15 million and Rs. 1.25 million ($4,049–$4,236) depending on definitive arrangements with Saudi service providers.
Yousaf explained that the projected figure has a buffer for any other costs. He further stated that if there are any savings, they will be passed back to pilgrims.
Five Saudi companies were shortlisted from among 19 applicants for next year’s arrangements, according to ministry officials.
Al-Rajhi, catering to foreign pilgrims in Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah, submitted the lowest bid, 2,635 riyals ($702) per head, against 2,875 riyals ($766) this year.
The company was commended for the air-conditioned tents and sofa beds provided for Pakistani pilgrims in 2025.
Religious Affairs Secretary Dr. Syed Ata-ur-Rahman remarked that the performance of the company was well received even by the prime minister. He assured that some 66,000 pilgrims were refunded Rs. 3.45 billion this year as costs turned out to be lower than anticipated.
“If any savings are made, they are the pilgrims’,” said the minister, hoping that next year’s arrangements will be even improved. “It is a religious obligation, and we are trying to smooth and make it more transparent for all.”
