GENEVA: Pakistan has been elected as a member of the Industrial Development Board (IDB) and Programme and Budget Committee (PBC) of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Elections were held in Vienna on Thursday during the ongoing General Conference of UNIDO. Pakistan’s term as a member is for four years for IDB (2022-2025) and two years for PBC (2022-2023). Since Pakistan’s membership of UNIDO in 1985, Pakistan has been playing its active role as a member of IDB for 30 years and PBC for 18 years.

The international community has once again reposed confidence in Pakistan, recognizing Pakistani’s contribution and efforts for inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Being the member of Policy Making Organs of UNIDO, Pakistan will continue to play its role and pursue its efforts for transfer of clean and innovative technologies and arrangement of adequate and predictable financing for developing countries for their inclusive and sustainable industrial development.

The Industrial Development Board (IDB) comprises 53 members, elected for a four-year term on a rotational basis from all Member States. IDB is one of the Policy Making Organs of UNIDO. It reviews the implementation of the work programme, the regular and operational budgets and makes recommendations to the General Conference on policy matters, including the appointment of the Director-General.

The Programme and Budget Committee consists of 27 members, elected for a two-year term.
