LAHORE: The Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML) has announced a protest campaign against the recent increase in the petroleum levy, calling the move an added burden on the public amid rising inflation and living costs.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, PMML leader Hameedul Hassan Gujjar said the increase in the petroleum levy was unacceptable and had further intensified the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens. He demanded that the government immediately restore the previous petrol price and provide relief to the public.
Gujjar warned that if the government failed to reduce the petroleum levy, the party would stage a sit-in on major highways in Lahore after the 10th of Muharram. He said the levy had made life increasingly difficult for people already struggling with the high prices of essential commodities.
The party also announced plans to launch protests from tomorrow, stating that it would continue raising its voice for the rights of the common people.
Speaking on the occasion, PMML leader Rana Shamshad criticized the rising prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), alleging that the fuel was being sold at arbitrary rates across Lahore. He called on the authorities to take immediate action against profiteering and ensure affordable energy prices for consumers.
