Pakistan Navy launches third Hangor-class submarine in China

RAWALPINDI: The launching ceremony of Pakistan Navy’s third Hangor-class submarine PNSM Mangrove was held in China.

Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Project-2 Vice Admiral Abdul Samad was the chief guest of the ceremony. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials of Pakistan and China.

Vice Admiral Abdul Samad stressed that Pakistan Navy is committed to safeguarding national interests by promoting a safe and shared environment.

He said that Hangor-class submarines will play an important role in maintaining strength and peace and stability in the region.

The Vice Admiral further said that this project will definitely add a new dimension to Pak-China friendship.

The government of Pakistan has signed an agreement with China to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines.

Under the agreement, four submarines will be built in China and four in Karachi Shipyard under a technology transfer agreement.

These submarines will be equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors that will target distant targets.
