Pakistan reports first Mpox case of this year

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported the first case of Mpox, commonly known as Monkeypox, in 2025, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 10.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), the virus was confirmed in a person, who recently landed at Bacha Khan International Airport (BIAP) in Peshawar on January 24.

The patient, who returned from Dubai, was screened by Border Health Services officials at the airport. He has been shifted to Services Hospital Peshawar for further treatment.

After the Ministry of Health official confirmed that the suspected case tested positive, the total number of mpox cases in the country has raised to 10 since the health emergency was declared last year.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, has assured that effective measures are being taken to protect the public from mpox.

He further said that an effective system for screening passengers was already installed in all airports, while authorities ensured full implementation of recommendations of International health regulations.

Dr. Mukhtar said that federal and provincial governments already vowed to completely eradicate Mpox from our society.
