Pakistan to keep facilitating US-Iran talks for lasting peace: Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Iran and the United States accepted the ceasefire on the appeal of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and participated in peace talks in Islamabad, which is a positive development for the region.

Speaking to the media after the important talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that as a result of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, both countries expressed their willingness for a ceasefire and accepted the invitation to come to Islamabad for peace talks.

He said that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had appealed for an immediate ceasefire in the region, to which both the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America responded positively. Delegations from both countries arrived in Pakistan yesterday to participate in the talks in Islamabad.

Highlighting Pakistan’s role, Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan not only helped in achieving the ceasefire but also made strenuous efforts to ensure its continuity, which is of utmost importance for the entire region and beyond.

He expressed his determination that Pakistan will continue to play its role in promoting dialogue and contacts between Iran and the United States in the coming days to pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that the commitment to the ceasefire and participation in the talks by both countries is evidence that diplomacy is being prioritized to resolve issues, and Pakistan will continue to play its positive role as a facilitator in this process.
