Pakistan to reshuffle key diplomats across countries

ISLAMABAD: In a major shift of ambassadors abroad, Pakistan has decided to reshuffle key posts in the Foreign Service, according to media reports quoting sources.

Pakistan’s current envoy to Ireland, Ayesha Farooqi, is possibly be appointed as ambassador to Russia. Meanwhile, Additional Secretary for the Americas, Maryam Aftab, is likely to be assigned as Pakistan’s envoy to Ireland, according to sources.

Director General Middle East, Altamash Wazir Khan, is being appointed as ambassador to Kyrgyzstan. Irfan Shaukat is set to be sent as the High Commissioner to Australia, while Ilyas Nizami will assume the ambassadorial role in Romania.

Sources also disclosed that Tariq Kareem is being proposed as the next ambassador to Myanmar,while the current ambassador to Myanmar, Imran Haider, has already been designated for a new assignment in Bangladesh.

Other anticipated appointments include Mustafa Rabbani taking over as Consul General in Jeddah and Shah Faisal Kakar being dispatched as ambassador to Niger. Additionally, Shehbaz Hussain Khokhar, Director General Europe, is probably going to be assigned as Consul General in Montreal, Canada.

The new positions should shortly be formally announced by the Foreign Office.
