Balcohistan to receive $194 million from World Bank for education & water projects

QUETTA: The World Bank has approved $194 million in aid for Balochistan for two projects for education and the provision of clean water, according to media reports.

According to a statement issued by the World Bank, $10 million will be used in a project to increase the literacy rate among children in Balochistan. This aid will promote quality primary education in Balochistan and provide quality education to 250,000 children in primary schools.

In addition, $94 million in aid will be used for a project to increase water security and production in Balochistan, while the lives of small farmers of the Nadi, Tali, and Lehri rivers will be improved.

Earlier, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $350 million loan for Pakistan to support access to finance for women in Pakistan under the “Women Inclusive Finance Sector Development Program (Subprogram-II).”

According to the ADB press release, the loan agreement was signed by Sabina Qureshi, additional secretary of the Economic Affairs Division, and Dinesh Raj Shiwakoti, Head of the Project Administration Unit.

“The State Bank of Pakistan signed the Project Agreement for the Financial Intermediary Loan (FIL).”

The program is aligned with Pakistan’s Country Partnership Strategy 2021–2025 to boost the representation of women in the economy.
