Pakistan, US vow continued cooperation after Foreign Ministers ‘telephonic call

ISLAMABAD: The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, spoke to his United States counterpart on a phone call, according to the Foreign Office.

“Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.” The office said in a statement released on the social media handle X.

The statement further added that “The two leaders discussed a range of bilateral matters and exchanged views on current regional & international issues. Both sides agreed to remain in contact and continue cooperation on areas of mutual interest.

 

Notably, it is the second phone contact between the two leaders in ten days after their meeting in Washington.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington and stressed that the Kashmir issue should be resolved following UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

On Friday, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the State Department. Ishaq Dar described the meeting, which lasted approximately 40 minutes, as a very productive meeting.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the two leaders pledged to build a long-term Pak-US partnership, agreed to expand economic and trade relations, and strengthen counter-terrorism and security cooperation. They also reiterated their commitment to work together on bilateral, regional, and global issues of concern.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar praised the constructive role of the US in the recent Pakistan-India ceasefire and commended the steps taken by President Donald Trump and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio in this regard. Ishaq Dar said that the ceasefire prevented an escalation of the conflict between the two nuclear powers.
