Pakistan weather update: PMD predicts another long spell of heavy monsoon rainfall across country

ISLAMABAD: According to the Meteorological Department, the wet weather is continuing and rains are likely to continue in the country for the next two days.

Monsoon rains are expected to increase from 05th (evening/night). A westerly wave is also approaching the upper areas on 06th July.

Under the influence of these meteorological conditions:

Kashmir/Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa/ Gilgit-Baltistan:

Rain-wind/thunderstorm with scattered heavy falls (at times very heavy) is expected in Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Manshera, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram from 05nd July to 10th July with occasional gaps.

Rain-wind/thunderstorm is also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) from 06th to 10th July with occasional gaps.

Punjab/Islamabad:

Rain-wind/thundershower with scattered heavy falls (at times very heavy) is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from 05th to 10th July with occasional gaps.

Rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah on 06th to 08th July.

Balochistan/ Sindh:

Rain-wind/thundershower (with isolated heavy fall) is expected in Northeastern/Southern parts (Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Barkhan, Naseerabad, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Awaran, Kalat, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti and Kohlu) from 03rd (evening/night) & 04th July and 06th to 08th July, while light to moderate rain-wind/thundershower in Sindh Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin and Karachi on 03rd (evening/night) / 04th July with occasional gaps. Isolated heavy fall is also expected in Southeastern/Lower Sindh.

Possible Impacts and advises:

Heavy to very heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galliyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Hill torrents of D.G Khan, Northeast Punjab, Kashmir and parts of Balochistan from 05th (night) to 08th July.

Heavy Downpour may cause urban flood in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar from 06th to 08th July.

Landslides/mudslides may cause roads closure in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet spell.

Heavy falls/windstorm and lightning may damage weak structures like roof/wall of Kacha houses, electric poles, bill boards, vehicles and solar panels etc during the forecast period.

Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast.

Public, Travelers and tourists are advised to avoid unusual exposure in vulnerable areas to avoid any untoward situation and keep updated about any change in weather conditions.
