ISLAMABAD: India has nominated a Pakistani national for its prestigious Civil Award for his humanitarian and bravery work that saved the lives of over 40 pilgrims during Hajj 2024.

In the previous Hajj season, Asif Bashir, through his voluntary efforts, saved 44 people, including 24 Indian nationals, from the scorching heat.

He saved the lives of the pilgrims despite the absence of immediate medical assistance, bravely escorting the pilgrims to safety.

The Indian government has appreciated his humanitarian act and invited him to receive the award on January 26, 2025.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sought a full report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Pakistani Embassy in Saudi Arabia on Bashir’s bravery during the Hajj season.

The Prime Minister plans to honour Asif Bashir in Pakistan before going to the neighboring country to confer the Indian Civil Award on him.
