RAWALPINDI: In a recent development, Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change, inaugurated Rashid Minhas Green Road, a giant leap for environmental sustainability in the region.

The ceremony was organized under the aegis of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and was attended by distinguished guests, including Fatou Harerimana, the High Commissioner of Rwanda, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Khazar Farhadov, and Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University.

In his welcome address, President of the RCCI Usman Shaukat emphasized the importance of sustainable development, green energy programs, and collective action to tackle climate change challenges.

Additionally, he stated that Pakistan is among the most vulnerable countries, facing serious challenges in the way of natural disasters, floods, and agricultural crises, as an estimated 2 million acres of crops have been damaged, affecting 22% of the population dependent on agriculture.

Romina Khurshid Alam commended RCCI for this First Green Road Initiative and called it an important step toward addressing climate concerns. She acknowledged that real actions are worth more than mere declarations and enumerated the important role of the private sector in combating climate change.

Alam voiced a collective responsibility in that people should work to leave the environment in a better way for future generations rather than being merely obsessed with the pursuit of wealth. She urged every individual to take concrete actions toward climate change, beginning with their homes, streets, and communities.

Top officials of RCCI and members of its executive body attended the event, which blurred boundaries between government and private sector, working with local communities for a joined-up approach to halt climate change.
