PDMA issues flood alert in Punjab

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab on Monday issued a flood warning for Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi rivers and adjoining drains.

The PDMA has warned of an unusual rise in the water level of the rivers from July 07 to 09.

The authority has warned of high floods in the Chenab River at Marla Head Works.

Meanwhile, there is a risk of medium to high level floods in the Ravi River and drains adjoining the Chenab.

The PDMA has also expressed the fear of flooding in the Rad Kohis (hill drains) of Dera Ghazi Khan.

The PDMA has also warned of possible urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Rawalpindi divisions.

The Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert to the Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and WASA officials.

Rescue 1122 has been instructed to stockpile fuel as well as make advance preparations to deal with any emergency.

The PDMA directed that “people should be kept informed of the developing situation along with providing food and clean water.”

Citizens and livestock should be shifted from the riverbanks to safer places, the PDMA ordered.
