ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has vowed to abolish all institutions, ministries, and departments that have become a burden on the exchequer, saying that this move alone will save tax payers’ billions of rupees and put the country on the path of prosperity.

Addressing the nation on Saturday, the prime minister said, “It is inevitable to abolish all ministries and departments that have become a burden on the people instead of serving [the nation].”

The Prime Minister said that when we came to power, the economic conditions of that time were obvious to everyone, and we saved the country from default.

The Prime Minister credited the last Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) alliance and top leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), including President Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, for bringing the country out of its difficult economic situation.

Appreciating the wise economic policies of his government, Prime Minister Shehbaz said that the country has come out of economic difficulties and is now on the path of development.

However, this path is not only difficult and long but also requires sacrifices from the top officials of the government and the elite. The eyes of the whole nation are fixed on the government to see how it will bring Pakistan out of the economic crisis. He added that there will be a revolution of prosperity in the country.

Shehbaz Sharif said that since he took the reins of the country with the support of the people in the form of votes and trust, inflation has reduced from 38 percent to 12 percent as a result of government policies.

Similarly, he said the interest rate on loans has been reduced to 20.5 percent from the previous 22 percent.

PM Shehbaz said that this will promote investment, and the country will be on the path of prosperity.

PM then termed the latest reduction in petrol and diesel prices a “relief” for the inflation-affected public.

He, however, admitted that these measures were still not enough amid the “inflationary storm” over the past four years that had “broken the backbone” of the poor.

The prime minister promised the nation that he would take more steps to provide relief, reduce inflation, increase investment, and provide higher education opportunities to the youth.

Shahbaz Sharif said that I promise that the dream of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and those who sacrificed to build this country will be fulfilled if the entire nation is united. We have to end our personal hatred and ego, rise above personal interest, and serve the poor and needy.

He added that we are not only serious about making the leader’s dream come true but also assure the nation that if we work hard and keep the spirit of sacrifice and selflessness alive, no difficulty will stand in our way.

The Prime Minister said: “There is no point in regretting the past; instead, we should learn from it to regain the lost glory of Pakistan.” Emphasising the determination to implement the vision of Quaid-e-Azam, he said that with the spirit of sacrifice and dedication, “no one can stand in the way of our progress.”.
