ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister on Thursday has taken notice of the increase in the salaries of the Chairman Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly, according to media reports.

Media sources said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sought a report from the Speaker and Chairman Senate in this regard.

According to sources, the Prime Minister will decide on the increase in the salaries of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker, Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate in the light of the report.

Notably, in the budget for the next fiscal year, the salaries of government employees have been increased by 10 percent and pensions by 7 percent, after which the hefty increase in the salaries of the Speaker and Chairman of the Senate is being severely criticized.

Earlier, when a repoter asked about this in the post-budget press conference, the Finance Minister defended the increase in the salaries of ministers, members of parliament, chairman and speaker, saying that their salaries have not increased since 2016.

In addition, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, in a statement released on social media, has called these benefits and salaries financial obscenity.
