Shehbaz highlighted the achievements of the last Nawaz government.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif declared the upcoming February 8 elections as the most crucial in Pakistan’s history, expressing confidence in the party’s victory under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, who eyes a historic fourth term as prime minister.

Speaking at the PML-N’s parliamentary board meeting in Model Town, Shehbaz highlighted the achievements of the last Nawaz government, citing the restoration of peace in Karachi and the elimination of prolonged power outages after the 2013 elections. He emphasized Nawaz’s role in addressing terrorism and recalled the development projects undertaken nationwide during that period.

Addressing the significance of political stability, Shehbaz stressed that development and prosperity were intrinsically linked to a stable political environment. He credited Nawaz Sharif’s return for revitalizing party workers, supporters, and voters, a move demanded by both senior leaders and grassroots members, especially in light of the coalition government’s perceived poor performance.

The PML-N parliamentary board conducted interviews for potential candidates from Peshawar, Kohat, and Dera Ismail Khan divisions to finalize selections for national and provincial assembly seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The process for Hazara and Malakand had been completed earlier, with the party yet to announce the chosen candidates amid internal discussions and potential seat adjustments.

The political landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is marked by negotiations and a deadlock, with various parties, including JUI-F, PML-N, PPP, and ANP, vying for optimal representation in both national and provincial seats, particularly in the densely populated Peshawar valley.
