Police constable shot dead by unknown gunmen in Bannu: police

BANNU: A police constable was shot by unidentified militants in the area of the Mandan police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Tuesday morning, according to media reports.

The Bannu regional police officer’s spokesman, Khanzala Quraishi, told Dawn.com: “Police Constable Khanzeb was riding a motorcycle to work when he was stopped and singled out by unknown attackers close to the Asghar gas station within the boundaries of Mandan police station.”

He continued by saying that the policeman was killed instantly by the fierce gunfire, and that the body was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu once a sizable police presence had arrived.

According to a police statement, later in the day, Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas Kulachi also went to the place of the crime, thoroughly inspected it, and gave severe orders for the arrest of the perpetrators.

According to the statement, the DPO was in the region for the operation to apprehend the criminals, together with other law enforcement officers.

The DPO was cited in the release as adding, “We will not rest until the elements involved in the incident are brought to justice.”
