LAHORE: A policeman in Lahore, identified as Rasheed, has been suspended and is facing dismissal after a video went viral on social media platform TikTok, showing him refusing to pay for a jar of honey from a roadside vendor.

The incident began when Rasheed took the honey without paying, telling the vendor he would settle the amount “next time.” However, the vendor insisted on immediate payment, leading to a heated exchange.

The video footage captures the vendor’s frustration, saying, “Everyone saw you take the honey, now pay up.” Rasheed responded, “You call me Chacha but still ask for money?”

This exchange sparked widespread outrage online, prompting authorities to take swift action. A police spokesperson confirmed Rasheed’s suspension and stated that proceedings to terminate his employment have begun.

This incident highlights the importance of accountability and professionalism within law enforcement. Similar incidents in the past have led to severe consequences for officers involved, such as the dismissal of Policeman Muhammad Asif, who misbehaved with an elderly woman at the Central Police Office entrance.

The Punjab Police Inspector General has emphasized that there is no place in the department for officials who misbehave with the public.
