NOSHKI: In a tragic incident, a police personnel guarding the polio team was shot dead in Killi Muhammad Hassani area of District Noshki on Monday by unidentified gunmen.
The martyred policeman has been identified as Abdul Waheed, a resident of Jamalabad, Nushki. The deceased’s body has been shifted to the nearby hospital.
Shahid Rind, spokesperson of the government of Balochistan, has condemned the cowardly attack and said that “Polio campaigns are a national duty, and any assault on them is intolerable.”
He paid tribute to the police officer and stated that “We salute the sacrifice of Shaheed Abdul Waheed, who gave his life for the protection of Pakistan’s children.”
“We stand with the family of Shaheed Abdul Waheed in this difficult time. He attained the highest honor of martyrdom. An attack on those safeguarding our children’s future is beyond comprehension and cannot be tolerated. The perpetrators will be dealt with an iron hand.” Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said while condemning the attack.
The polio campaign in the city has been suspended for the day, according to the Deputy Commissioner.
However, the polio campaign in the province continues, vaccinating at least 2.66 million children in seven days. Over 11,000 teams are participating in the province-wide drive, working tirelessly to reach every household.
