ISLAMABAD: Ahead of the announcement of the federal budget 2024-25, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) announced against joining today’s budget session on Wednesday in the National Assembly.

PM Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet has already approved the finance bill 2024-25 and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present an annual budget for 2024-25.

After the party’s parliamentary meeting, PPP Information Secretary Shazia Marri in a talk with the media announced that PPP will boycott today’s budget session.

She said that PPP lawmakers will not attend the budget session and urged the ruling Nawaz-led party to fulfill the contents of the agreement made with her party.

Ruling party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders including Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar have reached Bilwal House in Islamabad to negotiate with senior PPP leadership.

According to the details, PPP has decided to sit in the budget session after a short negotiation.

The Bilawal-led party has also not fully stepped back from supporting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led administration in the Centre and decided to “provide maximum support to the PML-N to pass the budget and vote in its favor despite all reservations”, the sources added.

The sources said that the PML-N government assured its major ally to make the latter’s recommendations part of the budget.
