GILGIT: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Amjad Hussain Advocate was elected unopposed as the fifth Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday.
According to assembly proceedings, no other candidate submitted nomination papers for the post, paving the way for his unopposed election.
All members present in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly extended their support to Amjad Hussain Advocate, who secured the office without facing any opposition.
Speaker Imran Nadeem formally announced the result and declared Amjad Hussain Advocate elected as the new Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The election comes after the formation of a coalition involving PPP, PML-N, and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), which had agreed to support a consensus candidate for the chief minister’s office.
Officials said the schedule for the oath-taking ceremony will be announced later.
