President Arif Alvi confers Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military upon CJCSC & COAS. President Dr Arif Alvi has conferred Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military (NIM) upon Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir at a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad in recognition of their valuable services.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and the cabinet members.
General Asim Munir assumed command as the new army chief (COAS) on November 29 after the retirement of Qamar Javed Bajwa, while General Sahir Shamshad Mirza replaced General Nadeem Raza as new chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC) on November 27.

The federal government chose two senior-most generals for the top slots.
Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah is a four-star rank general and current Chief of Army Staff, prior to his incumbent to Army chief office he was commanding in GHQ as a Quartermaster general. He commanded the XXX Corps in Gujranwala from 17 June 2019 to 6 October 2021.
He served as the 23rd Director-General of the ISI until he was replaced with Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed on 16 June 2019. He is also a holder of the Sword of Honour.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif appointed him as 17th Chief of Army staff on 24 November 2022 for the term of 3 years.
