ISLAMABAD: The mobile industry in Pakistan has experienced significant growth in recent years. However, this has been accompanied by a rise in IMEI patch phones and JV crack phones, with high-end devices being sold at increased prices.

In response to this concerning trend, the PTA has issued a new alert advising the public about counterfeit mobile phones and urging consumers to remain vigilant and choose original devices.

The mobile industry in Pakistan has grown significantly in recent years. However, this expansion has also led to a rise in IMEI patch phones and JV crack phones, with high-end devices being sold at inflated prices.

In light of this troubling trend, the PTA has issued a new alert regarding counterfeit mobile phones and is urging consumers to exercise caution and opt for original devices.

To safeguard consumers, the telecom authority recommends purchasing phones only from reputable sellers and ensuring they come with an official warranty. The PTA advisory advises checking for the PTA stamp on the phone’s packaging and verifying that the IMEI number matches.

How to check the IMEI number:

To verify a device’s IMEI number, visit the PTA IMEI Check portal and send your IMEI number to 8484, or use the DVS app available on the Play Store to check your phone’s status.

The PTA also cautions against high-end phones sold at unusually low prices and advises being wary of sellers who do not offer warranties.

Consumers should ideally buy devices in their original packaging and compare the IMEI number on the box with the one found in the phone’s settings. Each IMEI number is a unique identifier for a device.
