ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has postponed its October 15 D-Chowk protest in view of the two-day SCO summit starting tomorrow (Tuesday).
As per the media reports, the decision was taken by the PTI’s political committee in a meeting in which majority of participants urged to withdraw the protest call for Tuesday (tomorrow) in view of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting on October 15-16.
The decision comes as a relief for the government as the country is all set to host a heads-of-government gathering of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in the federal capital.
Imran Khan’s party met for a meeting via videolink after the government arranged a medical examination for former prime minister Imran Khan, with doctors set to examine him at Adiala Jail tomorrow (Tuesday).
They added that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has informed PTI Chairman Gohar Khan about the decision. Gohar has requested time for consultation regarding the matter.
It is expected that Imran Khan’s party would announce its next plan of action after the completion of the SCO meeting and if the government fails to complete its demands.
Party chairman Gohar Ali Khan and former National Assembly Asad Qaiser had opposed the PTI’s initial decision to protest during the SCO summit.
