ISLAMABAD: The founder of PTI, Imran Khan, and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have approached the Islamabad High Court for a stay of the trial in the Toshakhana II case and for an early hearing of the appeal.
This appeal has been filed in the High Court through Barrister Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, in which it has been taken as a stand that the trial court had rejected the acquittal application in November 2024, against which an appeal was filed on January 21, 2025.
The last hearing of the appeal was held on April 25, after which the matter has been pending.
The petition further states that there is a risk that the fundamental rights of the petitioner will be affected by the delay in the appeal, while the trial court is proceeding with extraordinary speed.
According to the petitioner’s position, if the trial is completed before the decision on the appeal is taken, the benefit of the appeal will be lost. Therefore, the court has been requested to stay the trial until the appeal is decided.
