LAHORE: Qayyum Shahid, son of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and private hospital owner Dr. Shahid Siddique, has confessed to murdering his father. During police interrogation, Qayyum revealed that he arranged for his father’s killing through a hired gunman.

Qayyum stated that his motive was to eliminate his father, who opposed his desire to marry a woman and refused to provide him with money. Qayyum also admitted to arranging a previous attempt to take his father’s life eight months ago in Chohang, for which he had paid a Rs 5 million bounty to a shooter. Half of the payment had already been made, with the remainder due upon completion of the task.

The police have arrested Qayyum Shahid and registered a case against him. It was also revealed that Qayyum had led his father’s funeral prayers.

The First Information Report (FIR) details that Dr. Siddique was with his son Qayyum and his brother Sajid when he went to Khizra Mosque in H-Block of Valencia Town.

After praying, as Dr. Siddique was heading to his car, an unidentified assailant approached and shot him. The attacker fled the scene on foot. Dr. Siddique, who had suffered four gunshot wounds, was taken to a nearby hospital but did not survive.

Dr. Siddique had also served as the chairman of Lahore Transport Company during the PTI government. Police have launched an investigation, registering a case against four unidentified attackers, and are examining CCTV footage and statements from family and witnesses. Initial investigations suggest a property dispute over a laboratory in Multan may have been a factor.
