ISLAMABAD: Sher Afzal Marwat, the firebrand leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, whose controversial statements had rocked Imran Khan’s party, has been suspended from the party.

As per the details, PTI suspended Mr. Marwat after a meeting between party founder Imran Khan and senior leadership in Adiala Jail. Top PTI leaders met Imran Khan on Thursday in which it was decided to suspend Marwat.

Sher Afzal Marwat repeatedly violated party discipline, making several critical statements about party leaders during the last one month.

He was earlier removed from PTI’s core and political committees by Secretary General Umar Ayub Khan on the orders of Imran Khan after he made a controversial statement about Saudi Arabia’s alleged role in Imran Khan’s ouster.

Marwat also named other nations for conspiring to topple the PTI government. The PTI publicly distanced itself from his remarks, which Mr Marwat attributed to his personal opinion, though he stood by them.

The hot-headed politician also lashed out at senior party members who he believed deprived him of the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee. He alleged that Shibli Faraz, the leader of the opposition in the Senate, informed Imran Khan about the reservations of the Saudi ambassador regarding his nomination to the higher parliamentary committee.
