ISLAMABAD: In a recent political update, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Core Committee has decided to challenge the court verdict in the Al-Qadir Trust case within 48 hours, according to the breaking news.
The development comes as an Accountability Court sentenced PTI founder Imran Khan to 14 years in jail and his wife Bushra Bibi to 7 years in jail in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case. The sentence was pronounced by Judge Nasir Javed Rana at Adiala Jail. The PTI legal team has identified a few legal flaws in the court’s decision, and the party is all set to move against it shortly.
The Core Committee meeting also discussed the dialogue between PTI and the government, with members asking for meetings every week in order to keep themselves abreast of developments.
They believed they were not being taken into confidence in the matter and only received information from the media.
They further lashed at the ‘undemocratic attitude’ of the government and showed their efforts at talks-avoidance as Omar Ayub assured them that PTI was keen on one-sided talks, which they had sent to the government in writing with respect to their demands.
The committee debated an emphatic protest on the call of Imran Khan scheduled for February 8. They all decided to reach a finalization after discussion with KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
It’s worth noting that PTI has decided to challenge the verdict, and according to a meeting of the party’s political committee, they will do so on Monday.
The meeting was attended by several key party members, including Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Ali Amin Gandapur, and they discussed the Al-Qadir Trust case verdict and the party’s dialogue with the government.
