LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a master plan for the growth and enhancement of 170 tourist sites and trails across the province.
Its objective is to highlight tourism related to religious, historical, and cultural heritage sites while focusing on eco-tourism.
It proposes developing tourist sites in Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Chakwal, and Jhelum. Eco-tourism in Pakistan would be developed in both Changa Manga Forest Park and Lal Suhanra National Park, and further sites regarding the Gandhara civilization are also included in the master plan.
Furthermore, the living heritage site of Multan, Qila Kuhna Qasim Bagh, would be developed as a reflection of the Indus Valley civilization.
Additionally, a comprehensive tourism application, “Magnificent Punjab App,” has been developed so an individual can take a virtual tour of 170 tourist destinations and services like hotel and travel bookings online.
To facilitate tourism, the Punjab government will also set up the first ever Punjab Tourism and Heritage Authority, which will improve governance and tourism promotion within the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz assured the government would provide all tourism destinations with international standard development.
The chief minister also foreshadowed the construction of a five-star hotel in Taxila and the establishment of a tourist hub in Punjab. With a comprehensive plan, Punjab stands ready to become a major tourism spot while exhibiting its cultural heritage and natural beauty to the rest of the world.
