LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched yet another initiative against air pollution and dust in Lahore, based on China’s plan to combat pollution.

The idea behind this plan is to set up water sprinkler systems developed locally in 1,500 construction sites across Lahore to keep the dust and debris suppressed.

All successful trials have prompted the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to go ahead with implementation, and the chief minister has directed the concerned departments to instantly start the installation of sprinklers.

Moreover, Chief Minister Maryam has directed that sprinklers should be installed at Gaddafi Stadium by 15 January.

In addition to the water sprinkler systems, new regulations will require construction sites to cover their dust, cement, and soil with green coverings during ongoing projects.

This step is taken with the intention of reducing smog and improving air quality. Senator Maryam Aurangzeb pointed out that the misting technology now in place will act in tandem with these measures to accomplish this goal.

The EPA has been spending nine months tirelessly trying to deal with air pollution, and it’s great to see the government take substantial steps towards this.

Beginning February 10th, any site that does not adhere to the water sprinkling regulations will face legal consequences to make everyone a part of the pollution-reducing venture.
