LAHORE: The Board of Directors of the Public Private Partnership Authority (P3A) has given the green light to two major motorway projects aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and facilitating travel across Punjab.
During its 39th meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, the board approved the revised commercial structure of the Sialkot-Kharian Motorway. The 69-km stretch will be upgraded to a six-lane road under the Public Private Partnership model.
The project is aligned with the recommendations of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and is expected to enhance mobility and promote industrial development in the region.
The board also approved the 117.6-km Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway. This six-lane greenfield expressway will be constructed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, with an estimated cost of Rs. 202.61 billion including Rs 40 billion in Viability Gap Funding.
The project will be awarded through international competitive bidding. Once completed, the two motorways are expected to reduce travel time and help in smooth trade and passenger movement between North and Central Punjab.
