LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has called a cabinet meeting on Tuesday to approve the ‘Roshan Gharana’ programme, which aims to provide solar panels to the people, here on Monday.
As per the details, the Punjab Cabinet is expected to formally approve the solar panel distribution plan.
Under this initiative, Punjab government will provide solar system to lakhs of consumers consuming 50 to 500 units of electricity. The government will cover 90 percent of the cost of the solar panels while the remaining 10 percent will be paid by consumers. The solar panels will be provided to consumers in easy installments over five years.
During the winter months, the installments of solar panels will be relatively low. The panels will be exclusively provided by the government, and a tariff will be established to determine the rate of electricity from the public grid and solar panels based on the needs of the customers.
The ‘Roshan Gharana’ program is being launched to tackle rising electricity prices and the ongoing energy crisis.
Maryam Nawaz said that in the first phase, the poorest families will get solar system according to the transparent procedure. He asserted that the government will not abandon the people in difficult times.
Maryam Nawaz said that efforts are ongoing to save the people from the negative effects of past disasters, assuring that in five years the citizens will not face the current challenges.
