LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to alter the distribution formula of the electric taxi scheme, and for the first time, women will also be provided a share in the eco-friendly electric taxi scheme.

For women, 100 electric vehicles will be provided through a belting system, while 200 electric vehicles are to be distributed among male taxi drivers.

While the Punjab government will provide 800 vehicles to corporate taxi operators, 100 electric vehicles were to be provided on an individual basis to the citizens. The government had planned to provide 1,000 vehicles interest-free for commercial corporate drivers.

The new formula will provide employment opportunities for women also, said the Provincial Minister for Transport.
