Punjab Police fires 100+ officers for refusing duty during ICC Champions Trophy 2025

LAHORE: Lahore’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police Operations on Tuesday dismissed 115 police personnel for refusing to perform security duties during the ICC Champions Trophy matches at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Sources revealed that some of the dismissed officers remained absent while others flatly refused to take up security responsibilities or were late in reporting for duty. The list of those dismissed includes Atiq, Zain, Ali, Sheeraz, Shan, Zubair, Adi, and several others.

Ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025 matches, Punjab Police has implemented stringent security measures. A total of 12,564 officers and personnel have been deployed in Lahore and Rawalpindi. Out of these, 7,618 officers were assigned to Lahore while 4,535 officers were assigned to Rawalpindi. Additionally, 411 members of the Special Branch were nominated to assist in the two cities during the tournament.
