LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has decided to launch a pilot scheme that will eliminate child labor while helping working children return to school through cash assistance.

The program aims to remove children from labor activities to help them enter educational institutions and technical training programs, according to officials.

The pilot program will begin its first phase by urgently launching operations in nine districts to provide financial assistance to 2,566 children. A Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program will be established to support children who need financial assistance by providing PKR 9,000 monthly payments to all eligible children.

The first payment will be made one month after the program officially begins, and the funds will be delivered to the children’s digital accounts. The pilot phase will receive PKR 300 million in funding, which will be used from April 1, 2026, until March 31, 2027.

The program will implement a coordinated approach to identify children and track their cases, which will guarantee transparent distribution of aid to eligible children.

Officials stated that the program will expand its operations throughout the province after the pilot phase achieves successful results.
