The Punjab government has approved to the replace the marks system with a grading system for Matric (SSC) and Intermediate (HSSC) examinations. The change has been made in a bid to bring the current education system at par with O and A Levels.

The suggestion was proposed by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) which got the approval from Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

This may prove to be a stepping stone to eliminate the cramming system and promote analytical abilities among students.

From now on, there will be no race among students to achieve maximum marks as they will get A+, A, B, C, and D grades, respectively based on their performances in the examination.

The provincial education department was hopeful that the initiative will improve the education system and will put it on track to meet the international standards.

In the first stage, the result of only 9th class will be announced as per the grading system this year. Based on success rate, it would be applied to upper classes from next year, the government said.

An official from the education department said the government was taking serious steps to make the education system analytical and cheating-proof to bring it at par with O & A Levels. However, the IBCC Chairman Dr. Muhammad Ismail said that he is yet to receive the summary after approval.
