RAWALPINDI: The E-Bus service in Rawalpindi will be functional next year. The project aims to resolve commuting issues being faced by the citizens.

There will be six routes including, one from Taxila, Wah Cantt, IJ Principal Road to Octori 26, and another connecting Daultala with Rawalpindi. Maintenance work on Metrobus tracks will be carried out from June to December this year.

This was revealed by Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan at a press briefing here on Thursday. He stated that he was making regular visits to Rawalpindi under specific instructions from Chief Minister Mariam Nawaz Sharif to address the city’s transportation and traffic management challenges.

He stated that consultations with members of the national and provincial parliament were also underway in this regard. Local MNAs and MPAs provided suggestions for reviewing the routes.

The minister stated that the Metrobus service was introduced in the city eight to nine years ago, but the previous administration did not invest a single dime in its operation and maintenance.

Metrobus track repairs will begin in June and be finished by December. The minister stated that the successful Metrobus service has rejected the negative propaganda conducted against the PML-N for establishing metro buses and that millions of civilians currently travel by metro bus.

Without Metrobus, the road conditions would have deteriorated, he said.
